A Summer Day in Destin

Looking for ideas on what to do this summer? Let us help you with our idea of an ideal summer day. After sleeping in and drinking coffee on the patio of your condo, you gather the crew and head to Another Broken Egg for breakfast. Try some delicious handmade biscuit beignets to start out and a gourmet omelette or eggs benedict for your meal. Enjoy a refreshing mimosa or have Kahlua added to your coffee for an extra pick-me-up.

Head back to the condo and rest a bit before gearing up for the beach. (Don’t forget sunscreen!) If you don’t have your own, beach rentals are available such as chairs and umbrellas, paddleboards, and surfboards. Some of our favorite spots are the beach access at Pompano Joe’s, The Back Porch, and Crab Trap where you can grab a great lunch and enjoy it out by the water. If you want a more quiet beach day, try Ed Walline on 30-A or Henderson Beach.

To cool off after the beach, take your pick of one of the many frozen yogurt shops around Destin like Twirl, 32 Degrees, or the newly opened Menchies in Grand Boulevard. All are situated among great shopping in case you need to bring back some souvenirs.

You go back to where you are staying and change for dinner and then there’s the problem of what’s for dinner. The options seem endless and you want to pick something everyone can enjoy while making great memories. Louis Louis is a favorite among locals and tourists. Similar to the famous Red Bar (and from the same family) but a bit less crowded and noisy (unless you prefer a packed house and live band), they have a menu that can’t be beat. Try the crab cakes and blackened grouper or our favorite Panne Chicken. For an upscale Mexican dinner, we love Cantina Laredo. Handmade, customized guacamole is created right at your table with a large selection of entrees that won’t disappoint. The house margaritas are the best in town and you can finish off your meal with a Mexican Brownie served on a sizzling skillet with brandy butter and vanilla ice cream.

Before heading home, take the family to Baytowne Wharf and enjoy a walk around the Village. You’ll find more restaurants, an ice cream shop and daiquiri spot, and even a carousel to take a ride on. Most likely, there will be live music nearby and you can end the night with some dancing.

So that’s our idea of a perfect day in Destin. Just a few suggestions among tons of fun things to do in our area. No matter what you decide, the view is free so enjoy the beautiful scenery and have a great vacation!
