Destin – An Art-Lover’s Paradise

heart

The gorgeous Destin, Florida area has much to offer: shopping, fine dining, golf, fishing, miles of pristine beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, and more. But what can it do for your creative outlet? Besides giving you tons of inspiration, there are plenty of fun activities throughout the year to satisfy your artistic cravings.

ArtsQuest Fine Arts & Music Festival takes place each year in Grand Boulevard and will set up May 13th and 14th for its 29th year. Over 150 artists will showcase their unique work over the weekend with original pieces available for purchase. There will be a wide selection of categories including ceramics, glass, jewelry, oils and acrylics, and photography with cash prize awards. Guests at the festival can also enjoy live entertainment, great food, and kids’ activities. Destin condos are available near the event for overnight accommodations.

Each month on the first Friday, South Walton art galleries host an Art Walk along 30A. Participating galleries stay open later to share new artwork while providing refreshments and live music. The Artists at Gulf Place also have fun workshops April through May with great activities such as creating your own beach sign, sand prints, and tie dye shirts. On June 16th, bring a bottle of wine to enjoy while painting a sunset picture on canvas with acrylic paints.

The annual Festival of the Arts takes place October 28th and 29th at Mattie Kelly’s Cultural Arts Village. Over 100 juried artists from 13 states showcase their art and compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. This event attracts many visitors over the weekend to enjoy the original work as well as music, food, and fun. The festival features a variety of categories including metal sculpture (last year’s winner of People’s Choice!), wood & acrylic, jewelry, and clay. From incredible artwork with such detail it looks like a photograph (artist Jamie Babula) to amazing glass creations with insanely intricate pieces (artist Brit Deslonde), you’re sure to be impressed and maybe walk away with some unique Florida mementos.

The Redbird Art Experience opened in March and is a great place to unleash your creativity. Using recycled materials, you can create your own masterpiece with your friends, partner, or kids! Owner Robin Cannon welcomes drop-ins but also plans to offer after school and summer programs, as well as party specials. Driftwood, glass pieces, license plates, and more can be just the supplies you need to create a masterpiece for your home or to gift someone special.

Art is a fun way to express yourself and Destin is an ideal place to do it. When planning your next trip, leave room in the itinerary for some creativity. Your artistic side will thank you.
