Running on the Coast

running

These days, everyone is looking for ways to benefit their health. We are bombarded every day with hundreds of things we can do or get to improve our immune system, our appearance, our sleep, and our overall wellness. In Destin, Florida, the weather and scenery make it the perfect place for outdoor activities and there are plenty to take part in.

Running is great for your heart and is proven to help fight depression and anxiety. The Florida sunshine can give you a nice dose of vitamin D which many people are deficient in. Of course, this excellent source of cardio burns calories and can be a lot more enjoyable than a group class indoors. Running on the beach requires you to generate more force and work through a fuller range of motion, strengthening your arches, ankles, and other lower body muscles. Listening to the waves come in and seeing the endless emerald water glistening is sure to improve anyone’s day as well.

Scenic Highway 98 and Highway 30A both have spacious paths for runners and bike riders near the Gulf and 30A condos. If you’d like to set some goals for yourself, sign up for one of the many races we have throughout the year. The next one up is a 5K in Destin for Payne Chiropractic Life Center on April 29th. The Emerald Coast Mud Run is a popular race that takes place in Niceville May 20th for those that don’t mind getting a little dirty…actually, a lot dirty. In October we have the Destin Rodeo Run 5K and the 30A Half Marathon & 5K in Santa Rosa Beach.

Just start walking a little each day and increase your goals each time. The best thing about running is it’s free! Grab your tennis shoes and a buddy and take in the stunning Emerald Coast views while doing something great for your body as well. See you outside!
