South Walton Named A Best Trip Destination By National Geographic

Once again, South Walton is in the news as a must-visit destination. National Geographic Traveler magazine released a 2019 list of must-see places and travel experiences. The Best Trips issue features places to visit that can inspire you and change perspectives. Locals and visitors alike can attest that our beautiful beaches are inspiring. How did South Walton make the cut among other exotic locations such as Tahiti and Montenegro?

The Gulf Coast was listed as a place to marvel at marine life since we take a proactive approach to protect our shores. Since summer of 2015, the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) has deployed approximately 700 artificial reef structures at 16 different sites along the coast of Walton County. These reefs give marine life a habitat which also enables swimmers to get up close with tons of colorful sea creatures. Each artificial reef is in the shape of an indigenous marine animal including a cobia, a sea turtle, and a dolphin.

Along with miles of pristine beaches and these incredible artificial reefs in place, what else does South Walton have to offer? Plenty! Amazing restaurants including Emeril’s Coastal Italian, Shunk Gulley, and Surfing Deer. We have boutiques, art galleries, surf shops, and outdoor shopping malls. We have bakeries, coffee shops, ice cream shops, and candy stores. If you’re looking for adventure and excitement, you can try the Track or Big Kahuna’s Waterpark. There is so much to do you’ll have to visit more often to try everything! Keep an eye on specials for Destin and 30A vacation rentals throughout the year to get the best rates.

The Emerald Coast is a place we are proud to call home. Destin, Florida has become a happy place for people from all over the world. Whether you come for the beaches (most likely) or the extras, we guarantee it will be one of your best trips yet. National Geographic agrees!
